Undertake research and disseminate
fndings to add to the body of evidence
related to nursing regulation
In an environment of increasing nurse mobility globally, it
is important that regulators share information about trends
relating to discipline and ftness to practise. In 2012 the Council
embarked on a comparative disciplinary outcomes project with
members of the International Regulatory Collaborative. Ultimately
the data may be used to target education programmes and it is
hoped that it will contribute to reducing disciplinary events and
thus provide better public safety. The preliminary stages have
been concerned with developing a common terminology so
that effective comparisons can be made.
Mark 21 years of cultural safety in New
Zealand and archive the cultural safety
history held by the Council
2012 marked 21 years since the introduction of cultural safety
to the nursing curricula in New Zealand. In recognition of this
signifcant milestone, the Council produced a bibliographic
resource charting the development of cultural safety in New
Zealand. Including reports, media coverage, opinion pieces,
letters to the editor, interview transcripts, theses, journal
articles and monographs, the bibliography is arranged
chronologically rather than alphabetically to provide a timeline
of the development of cultural safety as it relates to nursing in
New Zealand. It is a public resource, which will make it easy for
anyone studying cultural safety to access and locate the myriad
of information now available. The Council also catalogued and
archived all the resources it holds on the subject.
