All graduates of accredited Bachelor degree in nursing and Diploma in Enrolled
Nursing programmes seeking registration are required to pass state fnal examinations.
The purpose of these examinations is to provide an additional form of external quality
assurance of nursing education programmes. They also ensure that all graduates
entering the New Zealand Register of Nurses have achieved certain standards of
knowledge and competency. Schools of nursing receive feedback about their pass
rates and the national pass rate for each state fnal examination, enabling them to
benchmark their success against the national average.
