Overseeing nursing education
The purpose of these examinations
is to provide an additional form of
external quality assurance of nursing
education programmes.
ONLINE APPLICATIONS TESTED FOR GRADUATES
Online applications for state fnal examinations and registration were piloted with
two nursing schools in November 2012. Feedback about the process was very
positive from candidates and the heads of nursing, who reported that the new
system was very easy to use. Online applications will be rolled out to all schools
of nursing for the July 2013 state fnal examination.
ONLINE ANNUAL PRACTISING CERTIFICATE
APPLICATIONS
Online applications were introduced for newly registered nurses applying for their
frst annual practising certifcates. Results of state fnal examinations were posted
on 14 December 2012 and all candidates who passed were emailed details of how
to apply online. Eight minutes later the frst application was received and one week
later, when Council offces closed for Christmas, some 68% of newly registered
nurses had applied online for their annual practising certifcates.
The Education Committee
The Council’s Education Committee considers education issues and advises the
Council on matters relating to education policy. The Committee is responsible
for advising the Council on its process for accrediting and monitoring nursing
programmes. The Education Committee met on nine occasions during 2012-2013.
