certifcate fees from nurses, it is
essential that nurses understand and
value the Council’s statutory duties and
responsibilities.
Members of the Council’s senior
management team regularly meet with
nurses throughout the country. During
2012-2013 information sessions and
presentations were held with nearly
2,500 nurses attending these sessions –
a signifcant increase on previous years.
The primary focus of the presentations
to nurses was the new Code of Conduct
(see page 12).
With international colleagues
The Council actively pursues engagement
with nursing regulators around the world
in order to learn, share best practice and
benchmark its performance. This is a
strategic goal for the Council, and more
information on activities in this regard can
be found on page 20.
Website
The website is the Council’s primary
mode of communication. It is common
to all stakeholder groups: nurses,
educators, employers and the general
public. It aims to be an easy, user-friendly
source of information that lets any visitor
see what the Council has been doing or
is doing e.g. announcing consultations.
It has become the primary resource for
information about nursing regulation in
New Zealand.
An in-depth review of the content of the
site was completed during the year. The
site was restructured and relaunched at
the end of the fnancial year.
Publications
The Council has an active publications
programme designed to reach nurses,
the wider health sector and the general
public. In pursuit of cost effectiveness
and effciency, the Council is moving to
electronic communications and phasing
out the use of paper communications,
for all but key strategic documents with
longer shelf lives. Over 82% of nurses
are now receiving the Council newsletter
by email. This is up from 62% in the
previous year.
